Lake Pitch House
A transitional home remodel in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, Alloi was commissioned to design and build this home which sits on a slightly sloped hillside. The transitional design evokes historical elements of the local architectural vernacular with simple eave-less gable elements juxtaposed with modern ribbons of horizontal bands of durable cement board integrated with landscape walls. The design carefully balances tradition and innovation, creating a timeless aesthetic that harmonizes with the surrounding neighborhood.
The remodel included a new garage with a roof deck, a redesigned walkway and entry, and a front addition for the living room and office. It also featured a kitchen expansion and remodel, renovated guest bathrooms, and a newly added primary bathroom and walk in closet. Additionally, the project introduced a covered outdoor dining area in the backyard and comprehensive landscaping for both the front and backyards.
Conceptually nestling the home into the front hill, the existing driveway zone encapsulates a modern two car garage cloaked in a custom green roof. Planting on the green roof screens and softens city views while providing a private courtyard and dining patio. A large cathedral primary gable accommodates spacious living and office zones.
Large windows and thoughtfully placed openings invite natural light while framing stunning views of the hillside. The integration of durable materials ensures longevity, blending functionality with beauty. By merging indoor and outdoor spaces, the design enhances the connection to nature, making it a serene retreat in the heart of the city.
In the backyard, the primary bedroom and kitchen addition leverage views of the new pool remodel. A custom covered dining patio with overhead exterior heaters warms chilly late night conversations and family dinners.
The remodeled rear façade, seamlessly blending function and aesthetics. The addition of a covered dining patio creates a versatile outdoor living space, equipped with a high-performance exterior vertical shade. This innovative shade can be adjusted up, down, or tilted, providing customizable protection against solar heat gain while maintaining a comfortable, shaded environment. Complimenting the patio is a modernized pool area, where smooth concrete was used to create integrated coping and sleek slabs for a clean, minimalist look. This cohesive design ties the hardscape elements together, enhancing the outdoor experience with a sophisticated and contemporary appeal.
