Located in the heart of Santa Monica, our clients partnered with Alloi to thoughtfully reimagine their home’s layout while preserving its distinctive wood elements and architectural character. The remodel and addition and new ADU encompassed significant transformations across both floors, along with extensive outdoor upgrades, to enhance functionality, flow, and aesthetic appeal.
The living room was redesigned to improve flow, function, and connection to the central courtyard. The outdated, leaky glass door was replaced, and a new deck was added, creating a seamless transition between indoors and out. The fireplace was updated to bring warmth and character while complementing the home’s overall design. A new coat closet near the entry adds practicality, and a built-in desk with views of the front garden creates a quiet, inviting workspace. Thoughtful reconfiguration of the space makes it more open and inviting, perfect for both everyday living and entertaining.
The centrally located courtyard was transformed from a cluttered, underutilized space into a serene retreat with thoughtful landscaping and hardscaping. A new fire pit, built-in seating, and a rock garden were added, creating a clean, inviting atmosphere. Outdoor heating elements enhance comfort, making the space usable year-round. Now accessible from the living room, dining room, and family room, the courtyard serves as a natural extension of the home—perfect for both quiet relaxation and entertaining.
The kitchen was expanded and redesigned to enhance flow, optimize efficiency, and create ample space around the new island, reflecting the way families naturally gather. New wood cabinetry with integrated pulls was added, contributing to a minimalist and modern aesthetic while maximizing storage. Thoughtfully designed storage solutions were integrated to enhance organization, reduce counter clutter, and improve accessibility.
Engineered wood-framed glass accordion doors fully open, connecting the kitchen to a covered outdoor dining area and extending the living space outdoors.
The kitchen and family room extension created an open floor plan, enhancing circulation and strengthening indoor-outdoor connections.
We mirrored the cathedral wood beam ceiling from the living room in the new family room addition. The redesigned layout allows for easy movement between the kitchen, family room, and patios, improving functionality for gatherings and daily life.
The new primary bathroom addition features a floating vanity with double sinks, set against soaring cathedral ceilings and abundant natural light, transforming what was once a dark upstairs space into a bright and airy retreat.
Opposite, an elevated walk-in shower and freestanding bathtub with sleek wall-mounted plumbing fixtures enhance the clean, minimalist aesthetic, creating a serene, spa-like atmosphere.
The new primary bathroom is elevated by picturesque treetop views, bringing nature indoors and filling the space with natural light.
The primary bedroom addition features a vaulted, pitched ceiling clad in warm wood, adding depth and character to the space.
Exterior shades were installed to minimize heat, keeping the room cool and comfortable throughout the day.
A new ADU was constructed above the existing garage, offering a versatile space that serves as both an office and a gym.
